SPARTANBURG, SC - Maria Kay Brown Moore, age 39, formerly of Richfield Springs, NY, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. She was born on April 15, 1975 in Cooperstown, NY daughter of Nancy Yakubec Brown and the late Gerard Joseph Brown. She was the granddaughter of the late Karl and Mary Brown, and the late Steve and Katherine Yakubec. Raised and educated in Richfield Springs, she was a 1993 graduate of Richfield Springs High School and received an Associate Degree in Science from Herkimer County Community College in 1995. She furthered her education at Sherman College of Chiropractic, Spartanburg, SC where she received her Doctorate in Chiropractic. For the past twenty years she has resided in Spartanburg, SC. She was currently employed at Spartanburg Regional Hospital where she had worked for the past 12 years. On May 24, 2008 she married Ernest L. Moore in Pigeon Forge, TN. While attending Richfield Springs Central School, Maria was a member of the school band. Maria was active in girl scouts from an early age and earned their highest honor the Gold Award. She was a regular blood donor with the American Red Cross. She was an avid reader and held membership with a book club in Spartanburg. She was active in many of the hospitals volunteer and social groups, including the hospital bowling team. Maria also crocheted baby hats, blankets and booties that were distributed to neo-natal units nationwide. Maria was always there to lend a helping hand, never looking for anything in return. She was loved by family, friends and co-workers and will be greatly missed. Surviving are her loving mother Nancy Brown of Richfield Springs, NY, cherished brother, Jay Brown and his companion Kristi Parnell of Woodruff, SC, a special aunt Victoria Yakubec of Richfield Springs, best friend Stacey Coveny Mosteller and godchild Kaitlyn Mosteller of Endicott, NY. She also leaves her two beloved canine companions Bailey and Jinx. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Wednesday July 23th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 24th at 11:00am in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Richfield Springs. Interment in Inghams Mills Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Maria K.
