Obituary

Town of Warren - Marjorie Ann Ostrander, age 100, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, in Folts Home. She had the comfort of her family at her side. She was born on March 20, 1915, in VanHornesville, a daughter of the late Roswell and Marguente Bigelow Lafler. A lifelong area resident she was educated in Van Hornesville School. On May 28, 1938 she was united in marriage to Glen Wiles Ostrander in Sharon. They shared a devoted union of 53 years until his passing on April 20, 1991. In 1938 Marjorie and her husband moved to the town of Warren. She helped on the farm. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting. She belonged to the Town of Warren Grange. Her interests were ceramics, knitting, crocheting and cooking and baking. She enjoyed family gatherings and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To all who knew her they will remember her smile and willingness to help others. She was strong willed and enjoyed her independence and believed it kept her 100 years young. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Hugick and her husband Andrew, Debra DaCostafaro and her husband Alfred all of Richfield Springs, Donna Fanelli and her husband Michael of Chadwicks, six grand children, Andrea Harter, Shannon Hugick, Mary Ann Snyder, Megan Ellsworth, Telicia Orloff , Rene Demma, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a cousin mary Helen Oakley. Besides her parents and husband Glen, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Lafler who killed in WW II, John Lafler and Robert Lafler, two sisters, Alfreda King and Elizabeth Ashe. Calling hours will be on Saturday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs from 10:00 - until noon. Funeral Service will be held in the Church of Christ Uniting on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Doctor Mark Ioset, pastor. Interment will follow in Springfield Center cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Church of Christ Uniting, PO Box 896, Richfield Springs, NY 13439 or Folts Home Pavilion, 104 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY 13350.
