Obituary

MOHAWK - Mark J. Semit age 57 of Shoemaker Roadpassed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon March 1, 2008 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1950 in Herkimer, son of Herbert F. and Geraldine A. Geraghty Semit. A lifelong area resident he attended Herkimer Schools and was a graduate of Holland Patent High School. He furthered his education at both Herkimer CountyCommunity College and Farmingdale Community College in Farmingdale, Long Island. On August 21, 1976 he was united in marriage with the former Christine Pettengill in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. They made their residence in Saint Johnsville until 1984 when they moved to their current home in Mohawk. For seventeen years Mr. Semit worked as a process developer for Homogenous Metals in Clayville, retiring in 1994. Mark was a man who found his peace in the outdoors. As a member of Buck Point Lodge Hunting Club in Gray he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He had a keen interest in photography and in his leisure time liked working on and repairing cars. To all who knew him they will always remember his warm smile and friendly manor. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Surviving are his wife of thirty-one years Christine, his parents Herbert F. and Geraldine Semit of Herkimer, one sister, Linda Tarbox of Gloversville, three brothers, Cary Semit and his wife Jacqueline of Herkimer, David Semit of Little Falls, William Semit and his wife Donna of Remsen, an aunt, Elaine Leonard of Ilion, an uncle John Geraghty of Rochester, several nieces, nephews, cousins including a special cousin, Joyce McCarthy of Ilion and his many canine and feline companions. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (two hours prior to the funeral service) from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at a time to be announced later this spring. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
