MOHAWK-Martha Endres age 91 of Greenwood Terrace, passed away on Wednesday morning November 3, 2010 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born on May 14, 1919 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Lorenz and Katherine Hellebrand Endres. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. For many years Martha was governess to Edward and Bruce Crawford the children of Edward and Evelyn Crawford of Herkimer. For more than thirty years she worked as a hairdresser. She apprenticed with the Plum Beauty Shop in Herkimer and went on to take over the business, retiring in 1987. Miss Endres had a strong sense of community. She was the area instructor for the AARP Drive Alive 55 classes for many years. She had also served as an area officer of AARP. In addition she served on the Board of Directors of the Mohawk Homestead. She was honored in 1992, receiving the Senior Citizen of the Year Award in Herkimer. Martha will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person. She will be greatly missed. She leaves a niece, Marge and her husband Robert Ranger of West Winfield, a nephew, Larry Price and his wife Nancy of Tribes Hill, her special family, Bruce and Gala Crawford of Canastota, Edward and Mary Crawford of Socorro, NM, along with her many friends at Greenwood Terrace, Mohawk. A Memorial Service will take place on Monday November 15, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Wakeman Chapel of Folts Homes, 104 North Washington Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Cathy Lee, Folts Homes Chaplain will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Folts Homes or the Mohawk Homestead. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service.
