Obituary

MOHAWK-Martha Eleanor Meszler age 75 passed away on Tuesday evening December 13, 2016 in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the Comfort and support of her loving family at her side. She was born on September 16, 1941 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Melvin and Martha Marie Bayer Vandelinder. Martha was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1959. On February 10, 1962 she was united in marriage to Clifton John Meszler in the Herkimer Reformed Church. They first made their home in Herkimer and then in Richfield Springs before moving to Mohawk in 1970. Mr. Meszler preceded her in death in 1984. Martha worked as a Medical Biller, beginning at Herkimer Memorial Hospital from 1972 to 1984, then at the Ilion Hospital, St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Faxton Hospital, Herkimer County Department of Social Services and Valley Health Services, Inc., retiring in 2003. Mrs. Meszler had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church where she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Evening Valley Star Chapter # 82 Order of the Eastern where she had served as Secretary and a member of Henderson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Martha found relaxation and joy in music and singing. To all who knew her she was a caring, sincere and gracious lady who was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are three sons, Russell Meszler and his wife Karen of Canandaigua, Donald Meszler of Spokane, WA, Alan Meszler and his wife Dawn of Ilion, one brother, Lee Vandelinder of Seneca Falls, two sisters, Lois Wright of TX and Jean Mesick of Herkimer, five grandchildren, Alan J. Meszler II, Dylan J. Meszler, Ethan J. Meszler, Ryan J. Meszler and Cadan J. Meszler. Besides her parents and husband Clifton she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Gail Marion Meszler, a brother, Carl Vandelinder, two sisters, Carol Stack and Betty Harter. Calling hours for Mrs. Meszler will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street Herkimer. Funeral service will follow immediately after at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. The Reverend Brian Engel, Pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church will officiate. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery will take place later next spring. Memorial donations may be made to Mohawk Reformed Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of Evening Valley Star Chapter # 82 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:45 pm for ritualistic services.
