JORDANVILLE - Martha Halkowich Misencik, age 86, formerly of Hicks Road, Mohawk, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012, in the Masonic Care Community, Utica.
She was born on September 15, 1925, in Cullen, the daughter of the late John and Alexandria Pecuch Halkowich. Her youth was spent in Cullen, living and working on the family dairy farm. She graduated from Richfield Springs Central School. During World War II, she lived with her sister, Julie, in New York City, working in a war factory. On February 17, 1946, she married George Misencik, Sr., in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. They shared a loving and devoted union of 56 years until his passing on August 5, 2002. After her marriage, she moved to the family dairy farm on Hicks Road, where she raised her family and became the true farmer's wife and homemaker for 56 years. Martha was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Owsinski, of Middle Village, Queens; three sons and their wives, George, Jr., and Alice Misencik, of Hartwick, David and Dorenda Misencik, of Phoenix, Arizona, and John and Linda Misencik, of Mohawk; eight grandchildren, Ben and his wife, Karen, Michael Owsinski, Ryan and his wife, Becky, Raymie, Randy and his wife, Jessie, Nicole and her husband, Brandon, John J.J. and Josh Misencik, and Todd, Brad and Ethan; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Wasil Halkowich and his wife, Anna, of Richfield Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, John and Alexandria, and husband, George Sr., she was preceded in death by a brother, Metro Halkowich; two sisters, Julie Adamiak and Fanny Hollum; and her son-in-law, Walter Owsinski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Crane Cemetery, Town of Warren.
The family will be present to receive condolences from family and friends at Kelly Hall in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (one hour prior to the mass).
At the family's request, please omit floral tributes. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the church hall.
