ILION - Martha Steciak age 88 of South Third Avenue passed away peacefully on Monday morning January 14, 2008 in her home. She was born on October 9, 1919 in Monessen, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Stefan and Mary Doshna Sokol. Martha was raised and educated in Dolgeville. For many years she worked as a seamstress at the Joy Taylor Manufacturing Company in Little Falls, retiring in 1981. After her retirement she made her home in both Tarrytown and Ilionso she could be nearer her daughter Margaret. She made her home permanently in Ilion after Margaret passed away in 2004. She was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in East Herkimer. Martha will always be remembered as a caring and hopeful person. She will remain in our hearts and never be forgotten. She leaves behind several friends including her caregiver Ronald Schorer Jr. ofIlion. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Steciak, two brothers, Joseph and Paul Sokol. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Very Reverend James Jadick, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the funeral service (9:00 until 10:00 am). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church or Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
