HERKIMER-Martin I. Chrisman age 80 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday August 30, 2012 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica.
He was born on June 26, 1932 in East Herkimer, son of the late Burtis and Gladys Cookie Harter Chrisman. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School class of 1950 and was a member of Troop D National Guard and the US Army during the Korean conflict. On August 29, 1953 he was united in marriage with the former H. Shannon Weschrob in Herkimer. Together they have shared a blessed union of fifty-nine years.
Mr. Chrisman had been first employed by S. C. Legg, Inc. and retired from Remington Arms Company in 1986. In his retirement years he had worked at Martin Reel, Inc., Dollar Tree and managed Thompsons Gifts in Ilion.
Martin was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church, the General Herkimer Riding Club, the National American Legion and the east Herkimer PTA. To all who knew him, he will be remembered as a caring, kind and devoted family man. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides his loving wife Shannon, are three daughters and their husbands, Sharron Ann and Ted Brebeck of Mohawk, Melinda Sue and Michael Kieff of Cape Vincent, Rebecca Lynn and James Watkins of Ilion, six grandchildren, Brenda Brebeck of Richfield Springs, Michael Kieff and Regina Reid of Norfolk, VA, Nathan Kieff and fianc Shauna Wesley of Baltimore, MD, Katelyn Kieff of Cape Vincent, Benjamin Watkins and Gretchen Olson of Buffalo, Brandy Watkins of Ilion, four great grandchildren, Joey, Autumn, Matthew and Marcus, one sister Barbara and her husband Peter Gorham of Poland, a sister-in-law, Carolyn and her husband Morton Katz of Columbus, OH, many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Mr. Chrisman will be held in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street Herkimer on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
