Obituary

VAN HORNESVILLE - Martin W. Kelly, age 78 passed away peacefully on Friday evening July 11, 2014 in his home. He was born on May 26, 1936 in Kingston, a son of the late Martin F. and Grace Lamoreaux Kelly. A graduate of Kingston High School he continued his education, graduating from Potsdam University with a Masters in Music Education. On November 27, 1958, he married the former Norma Bowyer in Kingston. For over 33 years he was employed at Rondout Central Schools in Stone Ridge as a Music Teacher, retiring in 1991. In 1997 he and his wife moved to VanHornesville from High Falls. A devout Catholic he attended the Church of Our Lady of Hope in Fort Plain, serving as Cantor for sixteen years. He was a member of the NYS Teachers Association, New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, National Rifle Association, Mid-Hudson Rose Society, and the American Rose Society. His rose gardens were not only a hobby but award winning arrangements. In his leisure time he enjoyed wood working and boating. Surviving are his devoted wife Norma of fifty-five years, two sons, Paul Austin Kelly and his wife Carol of Lewes, England, Brian Edward Kelly and his wife Susan of High Falls, one brother Roland Kelly and his wife Thelma "Timi" of Kingston, a sister Maureen Hrbek of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Zac Kelly in December of 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 am in the Church of Our Lady of Hope, Fort Plain. Reverend Dennis Murphy, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in VanHornesville Cemetery. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Church of our Lady of Hope, 115 Reid Street. Ft. Plain, NY 13339. Envelopes will be available at the funeral Home. Calling Hours J.
