HERKIMER - Marx Q. Cristman, 95, of Claxton Manor, suddenly passed away Friday, April 8, 2005 at the Little Falls Hospital.
He was a practicing attorney in Herkimer for over 69 years, until retiring from the practice of law on December 1, 2004. He was a member of the Herkimer County Bar Association and served as a past president of the Herkimer County Historical Society. He became a director of the Folts Home in 1942 and served as a board member and its treasurer for 30 years. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer, where for many years he served as lay leader representing the local church at the annual Northern New York United Methodist Conference. He loved his family camp at Lake Rondaxe in Old Forge, where he continually spent his summers since 1914. He and his wife Bess enjoyed many activities at Herkimer County Community College, where they jointly established the Cristman Scholarship. They also participated in many local dance groups, prior to Bess death, after which time he continued to enjoy attending polka dances. For many years he was an active amateur radio operator. Until recently he enjoyed good health, was very active and enjoyed swimming and dancing.
He was born in Herkimer December 19, 1909, the son of the Hon. Franklin W. Cristman and Camilla Quackenbush Cristman. He attended Herkimer Schools and Syracuse University, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in 1932 and his law degree in 1935. In 1935 he was admitted to the New York State Bar. He married Bess in 1935, who predeceased him in 1994, after 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his three children: Camilla Aulerich and husband Richard of Mason, Michigan; Hall Cristman of Tuscon, Arizona; Scott Cristman and wife Kathleen of Pittsford, New York; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Calling hours at Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 127 Prospect Street.
