MOHAWK-Mary Ann Bala (nee Oliver) age 70 passed away peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father onTuesday morning April 22, 2014 in the Seigenthaler Hospice Center, New Hartford after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary Ann was born on July 4, 1943 in Ilion, beloved daughter of the late Dominick F. and Doretta H. Kirn Oliver. A lifelong Mohawk resident, she graduated from Mohawk High School with the class of 1961. For twenty-eight years she was employed as a payroll clerk for the Mohawk Central School District. She retired in February of 2007.
Ms. Bala had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church where she participated in many of the bible study groups. Mary Ann was a woman with a strong sense of community. She was a member of the Alexander Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program at the Midtown Apartments in Herkimer. For relaxation and exercise she was active in the Tuesday Bowling League in Ilion.
To all who knew her she was a caring, generous and helpful lady. Always ready to do for others while looking nothing in return. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Cheryl Krehan and her husband James of Apex, NC, Mark Bala and his wife Heidi of Johnsonville, Deana Bala of Mohawk, a brother, Ronald Oliver of Little Falls, three grandchildren, Jessica Krehan, Paige Bala and Shane Bala, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Oliver.
A Memorial Service will be on Friday at 1:00 pm in the Mohawk Reformed Church, 18 South Otsego Street, Mohawk. The Reverend Brian Engel, Pastor will officiate. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall after the service. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations in Mary Anns name to the American Cancer Society, The Seigenthaler Hospice Center or the Mohawk Reformed Church. Envelopes will be available at the church service. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
