STARKVILLE - Mary Bayzon, 86, of State Route 80, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2003, in the home of her brother, Nester Shypski, on Cullen Road, Richfield Springs, where she has resided since October.
She was born June 28, 1916, in Olyphant, Pa., daughter of the late John and Julia Peteuch Shypski. Mary was raised on the family farm and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
On Sept. 2, 1939, she married John P. Bayzon in St. John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, a blessed union of 51 years until his passing on Dec. 9, 1990. She and her husband had resided in Starkville since 1939.
For many years she worked for the Ben Franklin Store in Fort Plain, retiring in 1969. She was active in the Starkville United Methodist Church where she was treasurer of the United Methodist Women. In her leisure time she enjoyed garage sales, auctions, gardening, canning and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara and her husband Rodney Deusler of St. Johnsville; a son, Ronald D. and his wife Carole Bayzon of Richfield Springs; one brother, Nester and his wife Clara Shypski of Richfield Springs; a sister, Helen Meier of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Stephen Deusler of St. Johnsville, Aaron, Emily and Peter Bayzon, all of Richfield Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband John, a brother, William Shypski and a sister, Mabel Kierzinski, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. Cindy Makarchuk, pastor of the Starkville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Mrs. Bayzon will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Herkimer.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Van Hornesville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
