Hackettstown, NJ - Mary (Homyk) Behuniak age 93, formerly of Reservoir Rd, Herkimer, died peacefully while in the care of Compassionate Care Hospice on Sunday November 4, 2007.
Mary, born on July 20, 1914 in Conemaugh, PA, to the late Gregory and Anna (Naglowsky) Homyk married Joseph Behuniak in 1941 and was blessed with two daughters, Dorothy and Alexandra. After Joes death in 1947 Mary returned to her beloved home and helped her parents and brother Andy operate their dairy farm.
Mom was loving, supportive and inspirational; encouraging us, her daughters, to follow our dreams and instilling in us her hard working ethics, passion for creative cooking, interior decorating, gardening and landscaping as well as teaching us to be proud of our Slavic heritage. Thank you Mom for your mentoring. We are as proud of you, as you were of us.
As a member of SS Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Mary was active in the St Anns Sisterhood and Herkimer R Club. She will be especially remembered for all of the canning, delicious baked goods, perogi, holupski and paska breads she donated for church fundraisers. Mary also took great pride in her flowers and garden.
Mary leaves behind two daughters, Dorothy (Dennis) Young of Hackettstown, NJ and Alexandria Wolff of Marathon, Fl, two grandchildren, Daria Young of Morristown, NJ and Dennis Young of Monmouth Junction, NJ, brother William (Helen) Homyk of Herkimer, NY, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her brothers Andrew and Gregory and sisters Ann and Matushka Ann Rozdelsky.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:00 am in Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Herkimer with the Very Reverend James Jadick officiating.. Interment will follow in Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery town of Herkimer. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the church on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. Parastas service will be on Friday at 8:30 pm.
