Obituary

HERKIMER - Mary V. Elderkin age 80 of 690 West GermanStreet formerly of US highway #20, town of Warren passed away on Sunday eveningSeptember 29, 2002 in Valley Health Services Inc. She was born on September 3, 1922 in Brooklyn, daughter ofthe late William and Rose Stanchik Sarafin. Mary was raised and educated in bothBrooklyn and Spring Valley. She was a graduate of Spring Valley High School. On October 24, 1942 she married Lincoln G. Elderkin inBrooklyn. She and her husband came to Warren in October of 1974. For fifteenyears she was employed by the General Electric Company in Utica. She retired in1974. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, RichfieldSprings. Mrs. Elderkin will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopefulperson. She will be greatly missed by many especially her family. Surviving besides her husband of fifty-nine years Lincoln aretwo sons: William Barry Elderkin of Frankfort, Germany, Bruce and his wife MaryElderkin of New Hartford, one daughter: Mary Lou and her husband Gary Smith ofWarren, a sister: Sonja MacFarland of Taberg, six grandchildren: April Elderkinof Germany, Christina Lewis of Richfield Springs, Michelle Louis of Pensacola,FL, Mark Elderkin of Fort Benning,, GA, Gregory Elderkin of Fort Wainwright,Alaska, Brandon Elderkin of Richfield Springs, one great granddaughter: ReganLewis. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 7, 2002at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend TerrenceHealy will officiate. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath FuneralHome, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friendson Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs Elderkin's family sincerely wish to express theirappreciation to the entire staff of Valley Health Services Inc. for thewonderful compassionate care that was give to Mary over the past eleven years.
