RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Mary H. Garbera Kardys, age 92, beloved mother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 2, 2003, in Venice Florida.
She was born on September 3, 1910, in Richfield Springs, a daughter of the late Joseph and Felicia (Bristron) Peplinski. A lifelong area resident she attended local country schools in Fly Creek and Richfield Springs.
In 1930 she married Michael Harold Garbera, Sr. They shared a loving and devoted marriage until his passing in 1957. Mary worked as a seamstress in local clothing factories and as an assembler for General Electric in Utica. In 1966, she married Joseph Kardys, a farmer, in Verona. Upon their retiring in 1977 they moved to Burlington Flats. Joe and Mary shared fifteen years of admiration until his passing in death in 1981. For the past few years she has resided with her daughters in Florida. She was a member of St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs, the former Slavonic Club of Warren and the Polish Home of Rome.
Mary was a devoted wife and an exceptional mother filled with love, compassion and values. She enjoyed her home and family life and felt she was blessed with two great marriages. She was a shining example of how to live and will be remembered by her family as always being there, for teaching them wisdom and compassion and will surely be missed. Mom, God Bless You!
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jane Coretti, and Frances Lepine and her husband Dennis all of North Port Florida; her son, Michael Garbera, Jr. and his wife Morganna of Richfield Springs; five step-children, Sophie Kirk of Lee Center, Tillie Kardys of Syracuse, Theodore Kardys of Verona, Terry Deprospero of Syracuse and Mary Madonia of Rome; two sisters, and Steffie Szeflinski of Richfield Springs, Frances Szerbaniwicz of Rome, twelve grandchildren many great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a son-in-law George Coretti of Boynton Beach, FL, brother and sister-in-laws, several nieces, nephews, among them a special nephew Joe Rurak of Verona, cousins, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Funeral service from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy will officiate. Interment in St. Josephs Cemetery will be take place later this spring at a time to be announced. The family will be present in the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
