HERKIMER-Mary L. Jackson age 84 passed away on Saturday evening December 10, 2016 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
Mary was born on October 27, 1932 in Herkimer, daughter of the late William and Alice Potter Dibble. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. She furthered her education at Albany Business and Utica College where she received her Masters Degree in education. For 28 years she taught English at the Richfield Springs Central School, retiring in 2001. On May 8, 1954 she was united in marriage to James I. Jackson in the Herkimer Reformed Church. They shared a loving and devoted union of over thirty five years until his passing on March 19, 1990.
Mrs. Jackson had a strong faith in God and was a devoted lifetime member of the Herkimer Reformed Church.. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association as well as being involved in various volunteer groups staying active in her retirement years. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing Mahjong with many of her friends. She also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips over the years with her family and friends. To her many friends, family and former students at Richfield Springs Central School she will be greatly missed.
Surviving her are two sons and their wives, Robert and Barbara Jackson of Fairport, David and Patricia Jackson of Grand Junction, CO, a brother, William Dibble and his wife Chris of Vestavia Hills, AL, one sister Arlene Pritchard of West Winfield, six grandchildren Ryan Jackson, Mark Jackson, Scott Jackson, Todd Jackson, James Jackson and Jonathan Jackson, one great Grandson, Johnny Jackson, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband James she was preceded in death by her son James and a sister, Patricia Cotton.
Calling hours for Mrs. Jackson are on Saturday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will take place on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm in the Funeral Home. The Reverend Kyle Nesbitt, Pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery later next spring. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer Reformed Church or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
