RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Mary Margaret Jordan died Dec. 10, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a brief illness.
She was born in Battle Creek, Mich., March 10, 1911, the daughter of James and Ellen Keogh Jones. She was a graduate of Salamanca, N.Y., High School, D'Youville College, Buffalo, and held a master's degree in Biology from Saint Bonaventure University.She was a math and science teacher in Eldred, Pa., Ellicottville, N.Y., Griffith Institute, Springville, N.Y., and Marian College, Fond du Lac, Wis. At the time of her marriage to Myron A. Jordan on Oct. 23, 1947, she was executive secretary of the Otsego County Tuberculosis and Public Health Association in Oneonta.Mrs. Jordan was active in civic organizations in Richfield Springs including Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA and served two terms as president of the local garden club, of which she was a member for over 40 years. She was a former member and vice president of the Richfield Springs Public Library Board and a member of the Richfield Springs Historic District Association. She was a member of the Founder's Society of Syracuse University and its Society of Fellows and a past member of the Glimmerglass Opera Guild. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and past president of its Parish Council and a member of the Altar Society.Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, James of Richfield Springs, Peter and Susan of Syracuse.Her husband, Myron A. Jordan, predeceased her in 1987, as well as a brother and sister.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (today) at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terence Healey and the Rev. Robert S. Jones as co-celebrants.In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church or the Richfield Springs Rescue Squad are preferred.
