COOPERSTOWN - Mary Burr Leslie age 85 of Pioneer Street, Cooperstown passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, November 12, 2013 in the Otsego Manor.
She was born on May 28, 1928 in Binghamton, daughter of the late Raymondand Josephine Lawlor Burr.Mary was raised in Cooperstown, was a graduate of Cooperstown High School and furthered her education at the College of New Rochelle.
On May 15, 1948 she was united in marriage with William G. Leslie in Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. They shared a loving and devoted union offorty-seven years until his passing on February 2, 1996.Besides caring for a home and raising a family she worked as a secretary at Jones Oil Company andAT&T. In 1968 she went ot work for Congressman Samuel Stratton where she worked as his Administrative Assistant for twenty years.She retired in 1988.
In her leisure time Mrs. Leslie. found much relaxation traveling with her husband.Her friendly outgoing nature left her with a reputation that no one was a stranger to her. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Mary will always be remembered as fun loving, caring andhelpful lady. She will be truly missed.
Surviving are a son, William G. Leslie Jr. and his wife Margot of Chantilly, VA, four daughters, Debbie Gerber and her husband Richard of Cooperstown, Barbie Leslie of Satellite, Beach, FL, Pat Leslie-Aylor and her husband Graham of Springfield, VA, Peggy Gray and her husband Buzz of Madison, MS, two sister-in-laws, Susan Berry of Canadaguia, Elizabeth Focer of Plattsburgh, ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides her parents and husband William she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Burr.
Calling hours for Mrs. Leslie will be on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday at 2:00 pm in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Bernard Osei Ampong, Pastor, St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church, officiating.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department or the Friends of Bassett.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
