Obituary

WEST WINFIELD - Mary Jean Monaghan age 63 of Casler Road passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning October 10, 2012 in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford.She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on October 27, 1948 in Carbondale, PA, daughter of the late Robert E. and Catherine Krouse Monaghan.Mary Jean was raised in Norwich where graduated High School and furthered her education at Saint Josephs School of Nursing in Carbondale. Upon graduation from nursing school she moved to New York City where she worked as a Registered Nurse at Sloan-Kettering Hospital in Manhattan.She later worked as a contract safety nurse for AT&T and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, retiring in the early 1990s. After her retirement she made her permanent home in West Winfield so to be closer to her family. Mary had a strong belief in God and was a parishioner of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Richfield Springs.In her leisure time she enjoyed New York City itself. She was a New York Mets and New York Knicks fan, loved to go to Broadway Shows and was an avid history buff. Mary was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her cherished nieces and nephews.She will be greatly missed. Surviving are two brothers and their wives, Robert E. Jr and Donna Monaghan, Thomas R. and Jo-Ann Monaghan all of Albany, three sisters, Florence M. Collins and her husband Rodney of Ilion, Margaret M. Rotundo of Hubbardsville, Catherine Miller and her husband Bob of Newportville, PA, a well loved great uncle, P. R. Monaghan of Forest City, PA, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs on Monday at 12:00 noon.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 pm in Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Leo Potvin officiating. Interment will follow in Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna, NY.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday morning from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to H.A.L.O.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
