MOHAWK Melissa A. Stone, age 51, of East Main Street passed away peacefully on Monday Morning April 19, 2010 in her home. She had comfort of her loving family by her side.
She was born on December 11, 1958 in Little Falls a daughter of Ida Jane Bohl-Harter and the late Robert W. Stone. She was raised and educated in Mohawk, graduating Mohawk High School with the Class of 1977. Melissa was a bookkeeper with Bev Pack and later with US Care Systems in Utica.
Melissa loved to travel and visited such places as California, Florida, Mexico, and Colorado with close friends.
Surviving are her mother Ida Jane Stone of Mohawk, four brothers James Harter and his wife Marilyn of Scottsdale, AZ, Thomas Stone and his wife Terry of Oregon, IL, Terry Stone and his wife Carol of Mohawk, and Larry Stone of Auburndale, Fl, two sisters Sharon Ferdula and her husband Joseph of Frankfort and Rebecca J. Young and her husband Christopher of Mohawk, nieces and nephews Christopher B. Young, Robert W. Young, Debbie Harter, Rachel Harter-Farnaro, Lacey Harter, Ariel Harter, Johnny Ferdula, Jimmy Ferdula, Jesse Ferdula, Justin Ferdula, Carmella Stone-Klein, Thomas J. Stone, Megan Stone-Bauer, Shannon Stone, and Terra Stone, she is also survived by her companion Nigel Murfitt.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert Wm Stone, her brother Robert Wm Stone, Jr., her nephews Joey Ferdula and Jimmy Harter.
A graveside funeral service for Melissa will take place on Thursday April 22nd at 11:00 am in Mohawk Cemetery with the Reverend Patricia Lawrence officiating. There are no calling hours.
Melissa had a love for cats and her family requests that donations be made in her memory to H.A.L.O., Herkimer County Humane Society, or C.A.P., envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
