RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Michael J. Hugick age 96 of William Street passed away on Tuesday afternoon July 25, 2006 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital , Cooperstown . He was born on September 23, 1909 in Whitehaven , PA son of the late Martin and Anna Fortak Hugick. Michael came to Richfield Springs with his family at a young age. He was educated in a one room school house in Columbia and as a young adult worked the family farm with his parents. On January 30, 1937 he was united in marriage with the former Rosemary Bednarz in New York City . A loving and devoted union of sixty-six years, until her passing on April 18, 2003. Mr. Hugick was a dairy farmer. He and his wife had worked two farms, one at McCombs Crossing and for twenty-two years at Butternut and Cemetery Roads. In 1963 they sold the farm and moved to the Williams Street address. He also worked for both the town of Columbia and the town of Richfield Highway Departments, retiring in 1982 after twenty-two years of service. He had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. He was a member of St. Joseph s Church Richfield Springs, the church Holy Name Society and had also served as an usher. To all who knew him they will always remember a jovial man with a warm smile and friendly manner. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Surviving are two sons, Andrew and his wife Nancy Hugick, Robert Hugick, two daughters, Loretta and her husband Kenneth Wilson and Rosemary Hugick all of Richfield Springs, a brother-in-law Paul Baker and a sister-in-law Mary Hugick, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Rosemary he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Joseph Hugick and three sisters, Mary Sarafin, Rose Lupinski and Helen Baker. Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street , Richfield Springs on Friday at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in St Joseph s Church Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph s Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday (today) from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or St. Joseph s Church Richfield Springs. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
