EAST HERKIMER-Michael Christopher Lockwood, age 61, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2022, in Saint Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam with the love of his family by his side. As a young child he was raised in East Herkimer and was educated in St. Francis deSales Catholic school. In 1966, his family relocated to the Southern Tier. There Michael attended the Waverly School District and Elmira BOCES. Throughout his life he loved family gathering, especially during the holidays which he looked forward to with great anticipation and never wanted to see them end. Michael also loved being outdoors at his country home where he enjoyed hiking, long walks, cook-outs and swinging on the tree swing. He had a love for animals and had many pets. He also enjoyed singing and listening to music, as well as watching classical movies with his favorite being "The Wizard of Oz". Michael enjoyed making people laugh and always had a ready smile. Michael was raised with a strong faith in God. In his later years he resided in a group home residence in Western New York, but always looked forward to his monthly visits to his family's country home. The last six years he had resided at ARC Herkimer on Pine Grove. Michael is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Kisel and Teresa Lockwood both of East Herkimer, five brothers, William Lockwood, Jr. and his wife Sue of Georgia, Edward Lockwood of Herkimer, James Lockwood and his wife Anita of Little Falls, Daniel Lockwood and his wife Jean of East Herkimer, and John Lockwood of Athens, PA, many nieces, nephews, and cousins and his aunt Laurel Morrisette of Ilion. Calling hours in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc, 115 Court Street, Herkimer, will be on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday morning 10:30am from Annunciation Church, 109 West Street, Ilion, with Reverend Paul M. Catena, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Herkimer. With much appreciation the family would like to thank those who worked with and cared for Michael at ARC Herkimer.
