Obituary

HERKIMER Michele Georgette Lawrence, age 61 of State Route 5, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 12, 2014 in her home. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on October 14, 1952, in Uniontown, PA, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Helen Adamick Kmetz. Raised and educated in Fairchance, PA she was a graduate of Fairchance Jr/Sr High School. On June 6, 1992 she was united in marriage to John M. Lawrence in Croom, MD. While living in Maryland she worked as Wedding Coordinator at the Crofton Country Club. She and her husband moved to Herkimer coming from Glen Burnie, MD in 2010. She worked as a waitress at local restaurants until her retirement in 2012. Michele was community minded and loved working with people. She volunteered at Herkimer High School helping with musicals and plays as well as volunteering at the local food bank. She will always be remembered for her caring ways for she touched the lives of those she met. Michele was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors, seeking nothing in return. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her devoted husband John Lawrence of twenty-one years, her children, Alice Smith of Glen Burnie, MD, Elizabeth Smith of Baltimore, MD, Nicole Surguy and her husband Mitch of Annapolis, MD, Christopher Smith and his wife Elizabeth, and Brady Lawrence all of Herkimer, one brother Mark Kmetz and his wife Norma of Fair Chance, PA, a sister Andrea Hartman and her husband William of Smithfield, PA, nine grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Charles Kmetz and a grandson Edward John Smith. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, with the Reverend Edward Woodworth, pastor of the Millers Mills Community Church. The family will be present at the funeral home on Saturday two hours prior to the service from (10:00 am until noon). Interment will take place later this spring.
