UTICA-Mildred Ann Engert Millie age 84, formerly of Herkimer passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening July 16, 2017 at Acacia Village. She was born on January 27, 1933 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth Kolarik Skandera. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. At one time she was married to George Rhen. Millie first worked as a secretary for James P. ODonnell Law Office in Herkimer. On June 18, 1983 she was united in marriage to Herbert Engert in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Mrs. Engert worked with her husband as the Office Manager at Engert Lumber Company in Herkimer until her retirement in 1996. She had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. She was a devout member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer, where she sang in the church choir, had served on the church council as well as serving as Secretary Treasure of the congregation. She was also a member of the Valley Voices for Christ and the Christian Womens Stonecroft Ministries. To all who knew her she was a caring, loving and hopeful lady who was happiest when surrounded by her many friends. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving are two, sons, David and Marla Rhen of San Antonio, TX, Steven and Jacqueline Rhen of Edinboro, PA, step-sons, James Engert, William Engert, Herbert Engert Jr., step-daughters, Linda Dillion, Mary Ann Engert Pietruszewski, Patricia Schier, Nancy Caraisano, four cherished grandchildren, Hunter Wilson, Jillian Rhen, Jacob Rhen and Jordan Rhen, step grandchildren, Meghan, Kathryn and Kelly, Keven and Alicia, Alec and Aidan, Daniella and Aviana, one great grandson, Devin Wilson,, several step great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Herbert she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Rhen, a step-daughter, Kathleen Kaucher, a sister Elizabeth Emrich, and dear friend and companion Charles Simmons.
Calling hours for Mrs. Engert will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 am in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Ann M. Zimmerman, will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 442 Henry Street; Herkimer, NY. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
