Obituary

HERKIMER - Mildred Anna Jwaskiewicz, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 4, 2021, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. Mildred was born on April 7, 1927, in Czechoslovakia, daughter of the late Stefan and Anna Horak Mackoviack. Mildred came to this country with her parents at a young age. She lived in Edmeston and was educated in Edmeston Central School. In 1940, she moved, with her family, to Herkimer. On October 28, 1950, she was united in marriage to Joseph J. Jwaskiewicz in St. Joseph's RC Church, Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of 45 years until his passing on September 22, 1996. Mrs. Jwaskiewicz had a strong belief in God and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. For many years, she worked as a finisher at the Standard Furniture Company, Herkimer and later, as a seamstress at the Derby Dress Manufacturing, Herkimer. She retired in 1957. To Mildred, her home and family were most important. Her leisure time was spent at home gardening and sewing and oh those wonderful aromas of her cooking and baking that permeated their home. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. Surviving are a son, Michael Jwaskiewicz and his wife, Robyn, of Liverpool; a daughter, Michelle Ahern and her husband, John, of Herkimer; five grandchildren, Michael Jwaskiewicz, Adam Jwaskiewicz, Leanne LoCastro, Patrick Ahern and Joel Ahern; ten great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Milan, John and Steve Mackoviack. A Graveside Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Union Cemetery, Edmeston. Pastor Paul Messner will officiate. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc.. Herkimer.
