Obituary

MOHAWK - Mildred (Millie, Middy) Ellen Newman Parks, age 87, was born on October 8, 1936, in the town of Fairfield to the late Leland Bullock Newman and Bessie Ellen (Huckabone) Newman. A 1954 graduate of West Cananda High School she was in a class of 20 students. She later attended SUNY at Cobleskill. Mildred was first married to LeRoy Van Schaick. A daughter, Vicki Ellen was born of this union. On July 8, 1978, she was united in marriage to Harold Parks in the Herkimer Reformed Church. They shared a devoted union of 36 years until his passing on June 24, 2014. Her professional career began as a dental assistant for three years and then in a position with the Schoharie County Mental Health Unit. For the next ten years, she worked as an assistant to the head cashier at Central National Bank in Canajoharie. She retired in 2016 at the age of 80 after 33 years of dedicated service to the Neighborhood Center in Utica. She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Weinman of Ballston Spa, a granddaughter, Jessica (Tony) Mucilli and two great-grandsons, Nolan and Jack, two sisters, Betty Head of Altamont, New York, and Terri Simpson of Rapid City, South Dakota, and her dear friend, Sandra Eldredge of Ilion. Mildred is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Katherine Brown, Sarah Robinson, Tim Newman, Mark Newman, and Sally Taylor. In addition, Mildred had a stepdaughter Cheryl Amaro, and numerous cousins. Besides her parents and husband Harold, she was predeceased by a brother Lawrence Newman, and two sisters, Leona Hamza and Beverly Dibble. Calling hours and funeral service will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer from 2:00-4:00 pm with the funeral service at 4:00 pm.
