LITTLE FALLS - Mildred M. Vail, 80, formerly of Garden Street, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in Van Allen Nursing Home, where she has resided since 1994.
She was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Grecny Majtan. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Little Falls, graduating from Little Falls High School. She continued her education in business, graduating from the Albany Business College. For over 35 years she was employed with the New York Telephone Co. She worked in Herkimer and later transferred to Utica before retiring. She was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneer Club.
Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Frye of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Bertha Pakan of Schenectady; two nieces, Jean (Maytan) DiLoreto and her husband Eugene of Herkimer and Eva Norton and her husband Lyle of Albany; one nephew, Paul Pakan of Schenectady; several grand-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, three brothers, Paul Pakan Sr., John and Samuel Maytan preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Dale Dickerson, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls.
