RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Monroe G. Bud Hallock, age 88 of Bronner Street passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning March 22, 2011 at his home.
Bud was born on April 7, 1922 in Gilboa a son of the late Warren and Dorothy Oakley Hallock. He was raised in Middleburgh and was a graduate of Middleburgh High School. An honorably discharged veteran of World War II he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served with the Big Red One during the North African Campaign. He also survived the Kasserine Pass debacle and went on to fight in the invasion of Sicily.
On October 22, 1944 he was united in marriage with the former Miriam St. George in Stamford. They shared a blessed union of sixty four years until her passing on February 12, 2008.
Mr. Hallock first worked for I.L. Richards, GLF and Agway before he owned and operated Hallocks Hardware in Milford until his retiring in 1985. Bud was a member of Saint Joseph the WorkerCatholic Church, Richfield Springs and the American Legion Post # 616, Richfield Springs.
To all who knew him, Bud was a kind and gentle man who was a friend to many.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Richard and Susan Hallock of Rhode Island and Florida, Thomas and Roberta Hallock of Richfield Springs, three granddaughters, Melissa Allison, Jennifer Vibbard and her husband David, Jacquelyn Hallock, one grandson, Roman Hallock, a grandson-in-law Paul Allison, two step-grandsons, James and John Foster, six great-grandchildren and a sister Goldie Oakley of Stamford.
Besides his wife Miriam he was preceded in death by three brothers Pershing Jeff Hallock, Sherman Hallock, and Robert McDonald, five sisters Audrey, Marie, Elsie, Pearl and Jennie.
Funeral service from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, will take place on Friday at 11:00 am with the Reverend Terence Healy officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. to receive relatives and friends.
Members of the Hugick, Purcell, Shepard American Legion Post #616 are asked to gather in the funeral home on Thursday evening, at 6:45 pm for a service. Interment is to take place later this spring in Keyser Kill Cemetery, Middleburgh.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Richfield Springs Emergency Squad envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
