ILION Myles J. Sinnott, age 85, of Lester Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Faxton-St.Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford.
He was born on December 27, 1923 in Utica, son of the late Myles Joseph and Dorothy A. Wheeler Sinnott. Myles was raised and educated in Utica.
An honorably discharged US Army Air Corp. veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country from April 1, 1943 until November 10, 1945. He served with the 305th B.G.M.A., had fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
On October 4, 1946 he married the former Dorothy L. Lewis in St. Patricks Church, Utica. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-one years until her passing on December 25, 1997. On October 13, 2001 he married Alma Jenne, who also predeceased him.
Mr. Sinnott had worked as an assembler for Remington Rand in Ilion and later for the Remington Arms Company, retiring in 1985.
Myles will always be remembered as a kind and gentle spoken man. With pride in his military service he was active with local veterans groups. He especially enjoyed speaking at the local high schools. He was a member and past commander of the Mohawk Valley Chapter #28 Inc. P.O.W., a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a member of VFW Post # 502 Ilion-Frankfort.
Surviving are one son Myles J. Sinnott and his wife Kathleen of Whitesboro, a brother Ormond Brad Inman and his wife Marian of Sylvan Beach, two sisters, Alyce Brandes and her husband Gaylord, Beverly Sinnott all of Whitesboro, three granddaughters, Jennifer Sexton of Rome, Rebecca Zike of Holland Patent, Tracy Jayne of Oriskany and their husbands, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wives Dorothy and Alma, he was preceded in death by a sister Connie Alderwick.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 10:30 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Deacon James Bower of Annunciation Church Ilion will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at CrownHill Memorial Park, Clinton. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Disabled American Veterans Assoc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Members of V.F.W. Post #502 Frankfort are asked to meet at the funeral home at 3:00 pm Thursday for their service.
