Obituary

HERKIMER-Myrel Begley, age 89, of Claxton Manor, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 31, 2005 at her residence. She had the peace and comfort of her loving husband at her side. She was born on February 19, 1916, in Little Falls, daughter of the late Rudolph and Edith Myrel Campbell Horwald. Myrel was raised in Little Falls and was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1932. She attended Watertown School of Commerce and went on to graduate from Potsdam Normal School in 1937. She continued her education at Buffalo State Teachers College graduating in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She also did extension work in Syracuse, Oneonta and Potsdam. For thirty years she taught school in East Herkimer and Herkimer, retiring in June of 1971. She had also taught in both Illinois and Missouri. On July 20, 1940 she married Paul Paracka in Little Falls he died in 1956. She later married John Begley on April 3, 1961 in Paramus, NJ. She and her husband John had lived in Schenectady since 1979 after retiring in Herkimer and Missouri. For the last year and a half they have resided in Claxton Manor. Mrs. Begley had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Pauls Episcopal Church, Schenectady. She was a member for over fifty years and Past Matron of Rock City Chapter # 2721 Order of the Eastern Star, Little Falls and attended Evening Star Valley Chapter # 82 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Ladies of Rotterdam Elks, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and AARP. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who made a difference in so many lives teaching school and the joy of being around her socially in her every day activities. She will be genuinely missed by everyone especially her family Surviving are her husband of forty-five years John, a son, Richard Jan Paracka and his wife Wendy of New Port Richey, FL, one daughter Karol Sue Paracka Byers and her husband Wesley C. of Brockport, two step-children, Jerry Begley of MA, and Betsy Mabbett of Ft Plain, a sister, Mildred Salladin of Poughkeepsie, six grandchildren, Dawn and Eric Paracka of FL, Stephanie Rebecca, John Wesley, Christopher James and Susannah Renee Byers all of Brockport, one niece, Cherie Tompkins and her two children, Taberah and Paul Tompkins of OK, and a nephew Scott Salladin of Poughkeepsie. Besides her parents and first husband Paul a brother Archie Campbell Horwald who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and died in 1959 preceded her in death. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Christ Episcopal Church Herkimer. The Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector will officiate. Committal service will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday (today) from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Members of Evening Star Valley Chapter # 82 OES are asked to meet at the funeral home today at 6:30 pm for ritualistic services. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Saint Pauls Episcopal Church, 1911 Fairview Avenue, Schenectady. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
