Obituary

HERKIMER-Myrtle E. Carbone "M. Betty" age 90 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning April 19, 2015 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. She was born on October 21, 1924 in Weehawken, NJ, daughter of the late John and Julia Neuschafer Benson. She was raised in Morristown, NJ and was a graduate of Morristown High School. On July 3, 1962 she was united in marriage with Rocco Carbone in Herkimer. It was the year that they settled in East Herkimer where they have resided since. For eleven years Betty worked outside the home as a secretary for Hale Bookcase Manufacturing in Herkimer and for four years in the Dietary Department at the Masonic Home in Utica. She retired in 1987. Mrs. Carbone had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. She had a true sense of community and used her secretarial skills in many organizations throughout the years. At her church she was Secretary and Treasurer of both the Reformed Church Women and the Reformed Church Esther Circle. She was also Secretary of the Herkimer Lady Elks, Secretary of the town of Herkimer Senior Citizens and secretary of the Herkimer Memorial Hospital Snack Bar. Betty will always be remembered as a caring, giving and gracious lady who always had time to help anyone along the way. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren. Surviving are her devoted husband of fifty-two years Rocco, one son Lee Bell and his wife Susan of Daniel Island, SC, , a brother, John Benson and his wife Stella of Greenville, SC, a granddaughter, Sasha Efriamson of Orlando, FL, a grandson Ryan Bell, two step-grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Robbins, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved son John "Jac" Carbone, a brother, Guy Benson and a sister, Bernice Abel. A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Carbone will take place later this spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Here are no calling hours.
