Richfield Springs - Myrtle M. VanSchaick, age 85, of 690 West German Street, Herkimer, formerly of US Highway # 20, Richfield Springs, entered into eternal rest on Monday afternoon, November 24, 2003, in Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford.
She was born on March 1, 1918, in Little Falls, daughter of the late Jacob and Adina Werner Miller. A lifelong area resident she was educated in both Warren and Richfield Springs schools. On May 1, 1937, she married Ralph E. Van Schaick in the town of Warren. For thirty-two years she and her husband owned and operated their dairy farm on Brighton Road in Richfield Springs, retiring in 1979. Mr. Van Schaick passed away on June 6, 1982.
Myrtle had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Ralph Jr. and Barbara Van Schaick of Charlotte, NC, Jacob Jack and Linda Van Schaick of Richfield Springs, one daughter, Peggy Ann and her husband Edward Egan of Kirkwood, two brothers and their wives Warner and Ida Miller of Richfield Springs, Paul and Evelyn Miller of Sable Forks, one sister, Elizabeth and her husband Louis Chapman of Hastings, a sister-in-law, Janice Miller of Bradenton, FL, six grandchildren, Barbara Bodner of Lisle, Steven and his wife Tracy Egan of Sherrill, Edwin Egan III of Binghamton, Barbie Van Schaick, Susan Egan, Leslie Van Schaick all of Charlotte, NC, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband of forty-five years Ralph she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jacob, John , Edward and most recently William Miller, two sisters, Leslie Stone and Adina Gill.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 2:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend William Harkins, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting will officiate. Mrs. Van Schaick will be laid to rest in the Unadillla Forks Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday morning from 10:00 until 12:00 noon.
