QUINCY, MA - Nancy Jane (Denison) Brothers, age 84, formerly of Mohawk and Herkimer, passed away on August 5, 2018 at the Marina Bay Nursing Home in Quincy, MA. Nancy was born on January 9, 1934 in Newburgh, NY. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret (Shields) Denison. She moved to Mohawk as a young child and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1951. She married Robert E. Brothers on February 26, 1955; Bob passed away in January 1999. Nancy is survived by her five children, Maureen (Brothers) Cummings and husband, David, Robert S. Brothers and wife, Julia, Stephen M. Brothers and wife, Caren, Robin (Brothers) Bingham and husband, Bryon, Susan (Brothers) Williams and husband, Mark. She has eight grandchildren, Megan (Anderson) Johnson, Matthew Cummings, Michael Cummings, Nicholas Brothers, Kaley and Jessica Brothers, Chelsea (Bingham) Waldron and Jon Bingham. Nancy is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Drew Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Leigha and Kyle Waldron and Teddy Cummings. She was predeceased by her oldest sister, Renee (Denison) Baker; and is survived by a sister, Cynthia (Denison) Krowicki, of Ilion; and a brother, John Denison and wife, Martha, of North Carolina. She also has several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Brothers) Caliguire and husband, Mario, Sally (Brothers) Tarasiewicz and husband, Peter. Nancy worked for the New York Telephone Company as an operator after her graduation from Mohawk High School. After her marriage to Bob Brothers, she raised her five children, for many years, before returning to parttime work in the Herkimer, LW Bills Elementary School library. A few years later, she became employed by the Herkimer County Trust Company as a bank teller, where she worked for many years until her retirement in 1996. Nancy was a lifelong member of the Herkimer Reformed Church and sang in the church choir. Nancy loved to sing and listen to music. As the mother of five children, she was quite busy throughout their school careers. She was a football, basketball, baseball, hockey, volleyball, softball, swimming, cheerleading and a classroom mom. Nancy enjoyed watching sports and was a big fan of the New York Giants football team. She was also a great cook and will be remembered for her Sunday dinners, especially roast beef and mashed potatoes, as well as her famous pies, especially her homemade crusts. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fenner Funeral Home, 115 Court St., Herkimer, NY. Interment will follow near her parents' gravesites in Mohawk Cemetery. The families of Nancy would like to thank the entire staff at Marina Bay Nursing Home and the Old Colony Hospice for their wonderful, compassionate care over the past several years.
