HERKIMER-Nellie E. Gunter age 96 formerly of 205 Steuben Street entered into eternal rest on Thursday evening May 27, 2004 in Little Falls Hospital. She was born on June 21, 1907 in Gouverneur, daughter of the late Hershel and Catherine Hale Richardson. Nellie was raised and educated in Gouverneur On June 13, 1939 married the Reverend Samuel Theodore Gunter. A loving and devoted union of twenty-eight years, Reverend Gunter passed away on December 15, 1957. A resident of Herkimer since 1942, she had worked for fifteen years in the housekeeping department of the Herkimer Memorial Hospital retiring in 1972. Nellie led a devoted Christian life and was a member of the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, Herkimer. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters Barbara Joan Anderson of Bradenton, FL, Virginia Constance Miller Ginger and her husband Arthur of Mulberry, FL, Sharon Ann Gambino of Herkimer, five grandchildren, Thomas Shearer, Paul, Samuel, Maureen Mauro and Michelle. Two great grandchildren, Brandon and Morgan, many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Samuel two brothers, Clint and Albert Richardson and a sister, May McTurk, preceded her in death. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10:30 am in the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, West German Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Wells, Pastor will officiate. Mrs. Gunter will be laid to rest with her husband in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
