Obituary

OTEGO - Nicholas Garbera, 78, of Garden View Manor,formerly of Keating Road, Richfield Springs, passed away Wednesday morning,April 3, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Weedsport, Pa., son ofthe late Alex E. and Theodora Hubick Garbera. A lifelong area resident, he waseducated in Schuyler Lake Schools. A U.S. Army veteran, he was honorablydischarged in 1949 with the rank of private first class. On Aug. 2, 1958, he married Ida May Pope in theRichfield Springs United Methodist Church. For many years Mr. Garbera worked asa dairy farmer on the family farm in Richfield Springs. In later years he workedfor the Remington Arms Co., Remington Rand and the General Electric Corp.,retiring in 1979. Surviving are his beloved wife of 43 years, Ida; twosons, Richard Garbera of Newport and Charles and his wife Eva Mae Garbera ofOtego; a brother, Harry and his wife Barbara Garbera of Richfield Springs; threesisters, Mary and her husband Lee Seamon of Richfield Springs; Katherine Boothof Thomaston, Conn. and Ann Vallee of Utica; seven grandchildren; severalnieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sevenbrothers, John, Michael, Peter, William, Thomas, Harold and Timothy Garbera andone sister, Julia Skramko. Funeral service will be Saturday morning at 11 in J.Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. JohnYoung will officiate. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home toreceive relatives and friends Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
