Norma Vernell Spencer age 90 formerly of Mason Road, Mohawk passed away on Friday morning May 20, 2016 in Saint Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She had the support and comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on April 5, 1926 in Winston Salem, NC and was a graduate of Walkertown High School in NC. In 1937 she was united in marriage with Alton Edgar Spencer in Virginia. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-three years until his passing in 1990. Mrs. Spencer first worked for the Beechnut Company in Canajoharie for thirteen years. She the next worked as an assembler for Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer for twenty-six years and later in the kitchen at the Mohawk Homestead for ten years. She retired in 2006. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, murder mysteries and doing puzzle books. To her family she was the strength that held them together in good times or bad and was always there for them. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Battisti and her husband Anthony of Mohawk, one son, Lawrence Spencer and his wife Debbie of Ilion, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren,, twenty three great great-grandchildren and several cousins.
A graveside funeral service for Norma will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
