Obituary

SCHUYLER LAKE- Norman Frederick Winne, age 78, passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2015 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at side. He was born on March 17, 1937, in Ilion, son of the late Ray S. and Edna C. Scott Winne. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School, class of 1955. He furthered his education, graduating from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science. On November 1, 1958, he was united in marriage with the former Sue Hext in the Richfield Springs United Methodist Church. They have made home in Schuyler Lake since 2003 coming from Ilion. Mr. Winne worked as a computer engineer at Scintilla, UNIVAC, Par Technologies, ICL and for twenty years for Mohawk Data Sciences. After leaving MDS he did consulting work on his own. He retired in 2003. Norman had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church where he served as a Church Trustee and Lay Speaker. He had a strong sense of community and was Vice President of Exeter Historical Association, a member of the Schuyler Lake Cemetery Committee, a life member of the National Rifle Assoc., and a member of the Oriental Faxton Lodge # 0224 Free & Accepted Masons Utica and the Shrine. To those who knew him he was a caring, helpful and good natured man. He was happiest when he was with his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be truly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-six years Sue, two sons and their wives, Bradley F. and Jennifer Winne of Denver CO, Stacy and Lisa Winne of Columbia, SC, four daughters, Lisa Clark and her husband Fred of Pittsburgh, PA, Renee' Dugan of West Winfield, Suzette Vreeland and her husband Jim of Union Springs, Leslie "Lolly" Winne of Little Falls, a sister, Patricia Bresler of Houston, TX, seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren several nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sisters-in-law. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Ray Winne and a grandson Chuckie Mares in April of 2011. Calling hours for Mr. Winne will be on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Sharon Rankins-Burd and Reverend Dr. William Delia. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
