Herkimer - Olive J. Mumford, age 91 formerly of Firman Street, Mohawk passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening August 6, 2013 in Folts Homes, Herkimer.
She was born on December 16, 1921 in the Bush District, Town of Stark, daughter of the late Howard and Hazel Filkins King. Olive was educated in Fayetteville, Jordanville and VanHornesville public schools and furthered her education graduating from Albany Business College in 1942.
On February 18, 1944 she was united in marriage with Harold E. Mumford. They shared a loving and devoted union of sixty-five years until his passing on April 8, 2009.
Mrs. Mumford was first employed at radio station WSNY in Schenectady and later as secretary to the Superintendent at the Owen D. Young Central School. She retired in 1977 after twenty-five years of dedicated service.
She with her husband Harold spent their retirement years at their home at Peck Lake in the Adirondacks. They later moved back to the Mohawk Valley to be closer to their family.To all who knew her, Olive always kept busy and at one time had delivered the Pennysaver in and around VanHornesville.
Mrs. Mumford had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Jordanville Federated Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Keith Mumford of Oppenheim, a daughter, Kay Collins and her husbandDavidof Herkimer, a granddaughter, Denise Collins of Whitesboro, one grandson, Gregory Mumford and his wife Sharon, three great granddaughters, Samantha, Jazmin, and Alexis Mumford all of Oppenheim, a sister-in-law, Thelma King of Arkansas, several nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides her parents and husband Harold she was preceded in death by her brother Lorne King.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Mumford will be held on Sunday August 11th at 1:00 followed by a luncheon in the Jordanville Federated Church of Christ.The Reverend Scott Hocking, Pastor will officiate Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.There are no calling hours.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Jordanville Federated Church of Christ, the Jordanville Public Library or the charity of your choice.Envelopes will be available at the church service.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the third floor staff of the Folts Homes for the kindness and gentle care shown to Olive during her stay there.
