HERKIMER - Olive May Piper, 82, of 906 Highland Avenue, died on Sunday afternoon, August 20, 2000, in Folts Homes Herkimer.
She was born on August 8, 1918, inHerkimer, daughter of the late Anthony and Esther Miller Casadonte. A lifelongHerkimer resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On May 8, 1943she married Stanley Piper in the First United Methodist Church. The ReverendFred Cotnam officiated. Besides keeping her home, raising and caring for herfamily she had worked for Western Union, the Vogue Clothing Store, UNIVAC, theLibrary Bureau, R.K. Casadonte Company and retired fromB.O.C.E.S. in 1983. She was a member of Evening Valley Star Chapter #82 O.E.S. and waspast matron of Myrtle Chapter O.E.S. Herkimer. A member of the First UnitedMethodist Church Herkimer she was past president of the United Methodist Womensang in the church choir and was active in most of the church activities. Shewas a Folts Homes Volunteer and past treasurer of the Folts Homes Auxiliary. Atone time she was president of the Parent Teachers Association. Olive was an avidsinger and was once offered the position as lead singer in the Stan Kenton BigBand. She loved camping, all kinds of sports and had won a number of seniorgames in Florida.
Surviving her besides her lovinghusband of 57 years Stanley are two daughter and their husband, Barbara andDelbert Gilbrath , Jacquelyn and Joseph Sadowski all of Syracuse; a son, theReverend Gerald Piper and his wife Kathy of Olean; two brothers, Charles and hiswife Shirley Casadonte of Newport. Raymond Casadonte of Little Falls; twosister-in-laws, Ruth Casadonte of Mohawk, Judy Steele of Ilion; eightgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Herbrother Robert Casadonte preceded her in death
Funeral service will be on Wednesdayat 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer with theReverend William Otis pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Oak HillCemetery. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in FennerFuneral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made tothe Alzheimer Unit of Folts Homes. Envelopes will be available at the funeralhome.
