Obituary

MOHAWK-Otto L. Hight age 78 passed away on Sunday afternoon January 30, 2011 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. He was born on August 15, 1932 in Schuyler, son of the late Harry and Frieda Bunce Hight. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Mohawk. A US Army veteran of the Korean War, He entered into active service on October 17, 1952. He served in Korea where he received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Infantry Combat Badge, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 16, 1954 attaining the rank of Private First Class. On June 12, 1954 he was united in marriage with the former Mary June McCaw in South Ilion. They shared a devoted union of fifty-three years until her passing on July 11, 2007. Mr. Hight was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25, Mohawk. He at one time was an active bowler. In his leisure time he and his wife Mary enjoyed refinishing furniture and working in their vegetable garden together. To all who knew him, Otto will be remembered as a man of good character who was always there to help you whether it was times good or bad. He will be greatly missed by many, especially his loving family. Surviving are three sons, Douglas Hight and his wife Nancy, David Hight, Daniel Hight and his wife Terry all of Mohawk, a brother, Lloyd Hight and his wife Lucille of Ilion, six cherished grandchildren, Samantha Hight, Daniel Hight Jr., Amanda Hight, Douglas DJ Hight Jr., Michael Prusakowski and Robert Prusakowski, five great grandchildren, Aryanna Hight, Michael, Makenzie, Shae Amber and Paige Prusakowski Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Mary he was preceded in death by a sister Agnes Ward in 1994 and one brother, Floyd Hight in 1995. Funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Very Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer will officiate. Interment will take place in Mountain View Memorial Gardenslater this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Alzheimers Association of CNY or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25 are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:15 pm for services.
