HERKIMER-R. Patricia Aldi, age 88, passed away on Monday morning, October 26, 2015, in Faxton-Saint Luke's' Medical Center. She had the peace and comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on February 11, 1927, in Norwich, United Kingdom, daughter of the late Frederick K. and Helen E. Littlewood Green. Mrs. Aldi was raised in Great Britain and was a graduate of British Public Schools. On May 5, 1944, she was united in marriage with Harold J. Gifford in Norwich. They shared a loving and devoted union of twenty-six years until his passing on November 11, 1970. On March 20, 1976, she married Salvatore Aldi. Together they spent eighteen wonderful years with each other. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1995. For twenty-five years she was employed by the J.C. Penney Catalog Store in Little Falls, retiring on August 23, 1997. Mrs. Aldi had a strong faith in God and led a devoted Christian life. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting, baking and trips to the Turning Stone. To those who knew her she was a caring, loving and helpful lady who was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her saint Nana. She will be deeply missed. Surviving her are two sons and their wives, James and Joyce Gifford of Rensselaer, Jeffrey and Linda Gifford of Bridgeport, four daughters, Beverly French of Whitesboro, Elaine Davis and her husband Edward of Rome, Lisa Gifford and companion Patricia DeNigro of Ilion, Cheryl Gifford and her husband Thomas Salanco of Herkimer, many brothers and sisters in the United Kingdom, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands Harold and Salvatore, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Olivia Reittinger. Calling hours for Mrs. Aldi will be on Saturday from 12 noon until 3:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after in the funeral home with The Reverend Janet Gleason officiating. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery at a later time convenient to the family.
