Obituary

EAST HERKIMER – Patricia Butler, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, December 26, 2023, at home with her loving family at her side. She was born on September 16, 1940, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Bernard W. and Katherine (Lockwood) Baker. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On December 29, 1956, she married Richard G. Butler. They shared a devoted union of sixty-four years until his passing on December 19, 2020. For many years Pat worked at Mongomery Ward as a manager, retiring in the eighties. She was a member of the Evening Star Valley Chapter #82 OES. Pat found relaxation in crocheting and knitting, and time spent with family especially camping trips to Moffitt and Nicks Beach in Old Forge. Pat lived by the motto of "always put others first." Her caring, even temperament was an inspiration for her family. Pat was the first person you could turn to with your problems, always a listener and never judgmental. She was a trusted friend and will be sadly missed. Surviving are her two sons, Jeffrey Butler and his longtime companion Susan Mills of Richfield Springs, Mark Butler of East Herkimer, two daughters, Carolyn Rockwell of Mass and Nadine Lindsay, a brother Bernard Baker, Jr and his wife Nancy, brother in-law Gene and Kim Butler, all of East Herkimer, sister-in-law, Barbara Baker, of SC, seven grandchildren, Sean and Heather O'Brien, Casey Rockwell, Jeffrey and Alesia Butler, Eli Martin and Jenna Bawolak, as well as ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will take place next spring in Oak Hill Cemetery at a time to be announced. The family would like to acknowledge a thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and gentle care shown to Pat and the family, and a special thanks to Angela, Ann, and Wally, for their support and care.
