ILION-Patricia Ann Esford, age 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, November 25, 2015, in Saint Josephs Hospital, Syracuse. She had the support and comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on August 26, 1940, in Little Falls, daughter of the late Henry Glen and Katherine Deyle Furrer. A lifelong Ilion resident, she graduated from Ilion High School with the Class of 1958. She furthered her education at Utica College and graduated from the Faxton School of Nursing.
On March 18, 1961, she was united in marriage with Timothy Esford at Saint Augustines Episcopal Church, Ilion. They shared a devoted union of forty-three years until his passing on April 1, 2004.
For thirty years Pat worked as a Registered Nurse in the Maternity Department of the Mohawk Valley General Hospital in Ilion. She retired in 1995.
Mrs. Esford had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church where she had served as the church treasurer. She was proud of her fifty-seven year membership Order of the Eastern Star where she had served as Matron. In her leisure time she was an accomplished pianist. In her youth she played for the dance studio in Ilion. She later played for church services and Eastern Star meetings, as well as for friends and family. She found much relaxation in sewing and tailoring for local residents and businesses. She loved to knit and generously donated much of her knitting to the Lacota Indian children, a favorite charity. To her family, they will never forget the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen with her many baked goods. To her many friends, she will always be remembered as a kind, caring, and giving lady. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving her are a son, Steven Esford and his wife Donna of Ilion, a daughter Terri Nichols and her husband Paul of Clinton, a sister, Audrey Sorenson of Ilion, two grandchildren, Kaitlin Esford and Tyler Esford both of Ilion. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with a special companion of five years, Richard Empie of Schuyler who together with Pat ran the Empie Apple Orchard. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a beloved daughter, Leanne, and a brother, William Slocum.
