Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Patricia F. Pugliese, age 80, of East Lake Road passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 26, 2011in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown after a short illness. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.She was born on June 23, 1931 in Schuyler Lake, daughter to the late Chester and Eilean Downs Ferguson. A lifelong Schuyler Lake resident she was educated in Schuyler Lake and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. Pat first worked at Shur-Katch in Richfield Springs. She then furthered her education at the Utica School of Beauty graduating in 1961. On June 26, 1965 she was united in marriage with Carmel Pugliese in Cooperstown. They shared a loving and devoted union of thirty-seven years until his passing on October 1, 2002.For more than fifty years she owned and operated Pat's Beauty Shop in Schuyler Lake until her retirement in 2001. Besides her hairdressing business, for several years she also worked as a waitress at Harry's Restaurant just outside Richfield Springs.In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing and making Care Bears for the many children that were in her life. She proudly made the wedding dress for her daughter Lori's wedding. Pat was a bird lover and spent much of her relaxation time watching the cardinals and loons that were around home. She was an avid card player and would play regularly with her friends.To her family, cherished are the memories of warm aromas coming from the kitchen whenever she was cooking or baking. Mrs. Pugliese will always be remembered as a warm, caring and cheerful lady. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends, family, and five grandchildren, especially her youngest granddaughter Charlie Sue. Over the years she was a "special mother and grandmother" to her children friends and neighbors. A truly unique woman, Mrs. Pugliese will be greatly missed.Surviving her are a daughter, Lori Lamb and her husband David of Richfield Springs, one son, Edward Pugliese and his wife Rosally of Manlius, her five grandchildren, Lauren Pugliese, DVM of OH, Jenna Pugliese of VT, Lindsay Lamb of Cooperstown, Daeltun Louise Lamb and Charlie Sue Lamb both of Richfield Springs, many nieces, nephews and cousins and her close friends, Joan Thompson, Loretta Buel, and Theresa Vertucci Oaks. Besides her parent she was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Duane Ferguson.The family will be present to receive friends and relatives in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with the Reverend Betsy Jay officiating. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery, Town of Exeter.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Richfield Springs Vets Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Richfield Springs Emergency Squad and especially Les Olmstead for the care and comfort that Pat received in her many trips to the hospital.
