Obituary

ORISKANY - The Very Reverend Paul C. Bailey, age 66, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 11, 2013 from the Siegenthaler Hospice Center, New Hartford. Father Paul was born on June 10, 1947 in Utica, son of the late Edwin and Nancy Bailey. Father Paul was raised and educated in Chadwicks. On August 26, 1964 he entered the United States Army where he proudly served until January 20, 1969, when he was honorably discharged. On October 18, 1975, he united in marriage with the former Patricia Shandorf. Over the years, Father Paul had many professions, until he finally found his calling to be an Episcopal priest. He began his training at Trinity Episcopal School of Ministry in 1993. He completed his education in 1997 and has served his Lord at several churches including: Trinity Church in Beaver, PA; Trinity Church in Seneca Falls; Trinity Church in Binghamton; Trinity Church in Lowville; Grace Church in Carthage; Grace Church in Copenhagen; and Christ Church in Herkimer. Although he retired in October 2012, Father Paul continued to serve his Lord as a supply priest to several churches in the area. Father Paul was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Lowville Fire Department, the President and Chaplin of the East Herkimer Fire Department and Chaplin for the Oriskany Fire Department. He was actively involved in his community and volunteered on many committees. In his leisure time he enjoyed reading, watching his favorite television shows, attending car shows in his 1966 Mustang and especially cheering for his favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox. To all who knew hin, Father Paul will be remembered as a man who loved his Lord, his family and his friends. He was a minister and friend to all who came in contact with him and he will truly be missed. Surviving him is his devoted wife, Pat Bailey, one son, Paul Bailey and his wife Catie; two daughters, Jean Pounder and her husband Joe, Kim OBryant and her husband Eric, and his nine grandchildren, Sarah and Lin Pounder; Alexis, Paul, Malachi, and Joseph Bailey; Gabriel, Deliliah and Michael OBryant. Calling hours for the Reverend Paul Bailey will be on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer. In celebration of his life, funeral services with Holy Eucharist will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Annunciation Church, West Street, Ilion with Rt. Reverend William H. Love officiating. Committal service with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Reception to follow committal at Christ Church, 300 N. Main Street, Herkimer. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Christ the King Spiritual Life Center or the Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of the East Herkimer Fire Department are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:45 for ritualistic services.
