EAST HERKIMER-Paul F. Grubner age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning December 3, 2017 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He had the support and comfort of his loving family by his side.
He was born July 28, 1932 in Mohawk, son of the late Vensel J. and Helen Bellinger Grubner. A lifelong Herkimer resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1950. On October 17, 1952 he entered the US Army where he served in Germany until he was honorably discharged on September 22, 1954 attaining the rank of Corporal.
On September 21, 1957 he was united in marriage to the former Marion Lyga in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. For thirty-three years, Mr. Grubner worked for the New York State Department of Transportation in Herkimer where he retired in 1987. Paul was a life member of the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post # 4915 Herkimer and a member of the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and especially horseback riding. To all who knew him he was a good natured man with a great sense of humor. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be sadly missed.
Besides his loving wife of sixty years Marion he leaves a son Paul J. Grubner and his wife Sharon of East Herkimer, a daughter, Vicky Geswaldo and her husband Louis of Lafayette, one sister Barbara Sanders of Steen, MS, four cherished grandchildren, Paul J. Grubner Jr., Cori Grubner both of East Herkimer, Louis Geswaldo, Nicholas Geswaldo of Lafayette, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Warren, Vincent (Bud) and John Grubner and one sister Grace McGuire.
Funeral service for Mr. Grubner will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Cancer Society and the Herkimer County Humane Society. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer.
