Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Paul LHommedieu, age 65, died suddenly at his home on February 18, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Alberta LHommedieu. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Cathy (Schlimm) and 3 sons, Paul JR, David (Michele), Timothy (Nikki) and a daughter Ann Marie LHommedieu. He also leaves 5 beautiful grandchildren, Vincent, Michael, Bryce, Logan and Chloe LHommedieu, all of upstate NY. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Lynn (Dan) Phifer of Nashville, TN and Susan (Rob) Rockwell of Ocala, FL. He is also survived by his dear mother-in-law, Lillian Uihlein Schlimm. Paul was born in Greenport, NY and grew up in Aquebogue, graduating from Riverhead HS in 1962, where he played trombone in the marching band and was on the wrestling team. He attended Suffolk Community College and then started his farming career on West Lane, Aquebogue with his father, and uncle, Lou Stakey. Then he moved to Cassvile in 1968 and grew potatoes. In 1973 he moved to Richfield Springs where he owned and operated a 200 acre vegetable farm and roadside stand for over 30 years. He retired from farming in 2002 after having heart problems. He then worked for the state of NY as a crop loss adjuster and continued to farm part-time helping the Roy Boys Farm in Utica. Paul was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richfield Springs, where he sang in the choir. He and his wife also sang in the Community Chorus. He also volunteered with Catholic charities of Albany. Paul was a respected farmer, known across the state for his expertise in vegetable production. He will be sorely missed by his family, many friends, and the farming community. Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Monday at 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy Pastor will officiate. The Family will be present in the funeral home to receive visitors on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
