It is with profound sadness that the family of Paul D. McGuire announces his passing on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side.

Paul was born on June 12, 1953, in Herkimer, New York, to the late Daniel and Grace (Grubner) McGuire. He lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people and community he cherished. Paul had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him with his quick wit, generous heart, and unforgettable sense of humor.

From an early age, Paul was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to make people smile. He often shared stories about his time on "Uncle Paul's garbage route," memories that brought laughter to family and friends and reflected the pride he took in his work and the relationships he built along the way.

In his younger years, Paul proudly served as a member of the East Herkimer Fire Department, where he created lifelong friendships and memories. His stories of the Fire-matic races became legendary among family and friends, always told with excitement and a smile. His dedication to serving others was a reflection of the caring and generous person he was throughout his life.

A graduate of Herkimer High School, Class of 1971, Paul continued his education at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, where he played football. Whether on the field, at work, or among friends, Paul approached life with determination, loyalty, and an unmistakable sense of camaraderie.

Throughout his career, Paul brought his dedication, leadership, and humor to every role he held. He began his career working for the Town of Herkimer, where he brought joy and laughter to those around him. He later served as a Deputy Sheriff for Herkimer County. His professional journey continued with Remington Arms, General Electric, and Lockheed Martin, where he served as Manager of Security, before becoming Corporate Security Director for SRC. Throughout his career, Paul was respected for his integrity, commitment, professionalism, and genuine care for the people he worked with.

Paul was a dedicated member of Herkimer Elks Lodge #1439 for 51 years, as well as a proud member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. His commitment to fellowship, service, and community remained an important part of his life.

Paul believed strongly in giving back to others. He served as President of the Board for Meals on Wheels, volunteered with Honor Flight, and served as President of Herkimer Little League, where he dedicated his time and heart to helping young people. His willingness to serve and support others was one of the many qualities that made him so special.

A lifelong sports fan, Paul was deeply devoted to the New York Giants, New York Yankees, and New York Rangers. Family and friends knew that watching a game was never complete without Paul's enthusiastic "armchair coaching"—often delivered loudly enough for miles around to hear. His passion for sports brought laughter, conversation, and countless memories to those lucky enough to share those moments with him.

Paul also loved golf, and one of his happiest moments came on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2023, when he achieved a hole-in-one at Stonegate Golf Club in Florida. It was a memory he proudly treasured and loved sharing with family and friends.

Paul developed a deep love for Florida and the life he built there. He especially cherished the friendships he made with his many friends at Mirabella, where he enjoyed the warmth, companionship, and sense of community that became such an important part of his life. The relationships he formed there brought him great happiness, and he treasured the time spent with friends who became like family. Florida held a special place in Paul's heart, and he loved the experiences, memories, and friendships it gave him.

Paul also shared a very special bond with the family dog, Luna Maria. Their connection was truly one of a kind. Luna adored Paul, and Paul loved her deeply in return. She would often run right past Kathy just to get to Paul, a testament to the special relationship they shared. Their companionship brought Paul endless happiness, laughter, and love.

Above all else, Paul's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His beloved wife and soulmate, Kathy, was the love of his life and his greatest companion. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and countless cherished memories. Kathy remained faithfully by his side until his final moments.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife and soulmate, Kathy; his children, Johnny and Nicole McGuire, Jason and Brittany McGuire, and Brittnee and Ron Mexico; and Kathy's children, Chris Dorozynski, Eric and Suelen Dorozynski, and Kevin and Nicole Dorozynski - Wurz, whom he loved as his own.

Known lovingly as Pop Pop, Paul cherished his grandchildren: Stevie, Kendal, Tony, Lily, Michael, Christopher Wyatt, Ronnie, River, Rilynn, Adalyn, and Connor. They brought him immense happiness, and he treasured every moment spent watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and creating memories together.

Paul was predeceased by his beloved brother, John “Corky” McGuire, in 1975. The loss of his brother was one Paul carried with him throughout his life, and he missed Corky deeply every day. Their bond remained a treasured part of Paul's heart and a reminder of the love and connection shared between brothers.

He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever remember his laughter, kindness, generosity, and the countless stories that made Paul so unforgettable.

Paul's life was a testament to love, loyalty, laughter, and service. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on through the family he adored, the friendships he treasured, and the many lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Paul would agree that you never heard a bad word spoken about him. His kindness, humor, generosity, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.

Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 11AM to 1PM at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer, NY followed by a funeral service at 1PM with Robert Nasypany officiating. The East Herkimer Volunteer Fire and Herkimer Elks will be present to perform their ritualistic services. Paul will be laid to rest with his family in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Shells Bush Road, Little Falls, NY.
