Troy - Paul Peknik, age 90, of McChesney Avenue formerly of Steuben Street, Herkimer, passed away on Thursday evening August 1, 2002 in the Julia Blair Nursing Home, Albany.
He was born on April 3, 1912 in Herkimer son of the late Daniel and Anna Cizmar Peknik. He was raised in Herkimer where he graduated from Herkimer High School. An honorably discharged veteran of World War II he served with the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre where he received two Bronze Stars. On April 19, 1934 he married the former Hilda Neitzke of Dolgeville in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer. A loving and devoted union of sixty-two years until her passing October 6, 1996. Mr. Peknik was a retail salesman first working for H.G. Munger Department Store, Herkimer and for twenty-one years for the Montgomery Ward Store in Herkimer. He retired in 1974.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Loudenville, Herkimer Lodge # 423 Free and Accepted Masons, the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars Posts in Albany.
Surviving him are a sister Elizabeth and her husband Reinholdt Senft of Little Falls, a daughter-in-law; Carol Peknik of Rome, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a niece Sue Crimmins of Little Falls, one nephew Harold Walter of Dolgeville and Paul's dear companion Anita Knox of Troy. Besides his wife Hilda he was preceded in death by his son Paul Peknik in 1993 and three brothers; John, Daniel and Steve Peknik.
A graveside service with military honors will be on Friday at 10:00AM in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls. The Reverend Dale Dickerson, Pastor of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer will officiate. There are no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
