Paul Sokol's Obituary

HERKIMER-Paul Sokol age 84 of Steuben Street passed away on Sunday morning September 3, 2006 in St Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. He was born on July 29, 1922 in Monessen, PA, son of the late Stefan and Mary Doshna Sokol. Paul was raised on the family dairy farm in Saint Johnsville. He was a graduate of Dolgeville High School and furthered his education graduating from Mohawk Valley Community College. On November 25, 1961 he was united in marriage with Katherine Kay Kuzeneck in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Herkimer. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of forty-four years until her passing on April 22nd of this year. In 1960 Paul went to work as a computer technician for UNIVAC until 1974 when he went to work as a computer technician for ICL in Utica, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church Herkimer and a member of the R Club of the church. An avid bowler Paul bowled in the Wednesday League in Herkimer and the Thursday League in Ilion. He was also a member of AARP and until he was taken ill, was a regular with the coffee bunch that meets at McDonalds every morning. Paul was a humble man with a down to earth manor that flowed from his character. He had a gift for making you feel his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. He is survived by his sister Martha Steciak of Ilion, a niece Sandra and her husband John Rasmussen of California, a nephew, Joseph and his wife Rebecca Sokol of St Johnsville, three cousins, Stephen and his wife Joanne Keblish along with their children Stephen Jr., Catherine and Bradley all of Herkimer, Nick and his wife Margaret Keblish of Holland Patent, David and his wife Helene Keblish of Henrietta. Besides his parents and wife Kay he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Sokol, a niece Margaret Steciak and great-cousin Todd Keblish on July 7th of this year. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street Herkimer on Tuesday at 9:30 am. Funeral service in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church Herkimer at 10:00 am with the Very Reverend James Jadick officiating. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives on Monday (today) from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Parastas will be said this evening at 8:00 pm in the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
